How to Create a Segment Based on an Uploaded List
Chapter 1: Introduction
This guide will walk you through the process of creating a segment based on a list that you upload. This is useful when you need to import contacts from an external source.
Chapter 2: Creating Contacts
1. Navigate to Real-Time Journeys: Go to the marketing section and select "Contacts".
2. Import Contacts from CSV:
- Click on "Import from CSV".
- Ensure your CSV file has at least two columns: email and import segment name.
- Select your file and click "Next".
- Set the alternate key to "email" to check if the contact already exists in the system.
- Map the fields: primary email to email, last name to last name, first name to first name. Ignore the import segment name for now.
- Finish the import and track the progress to ensure all contacts are processed successfully.
Chapter 3: Creating Import Segment Membership Rows
1. Navigate to Import Segment Memberships: Go to the sidebar and select "Import Segment Memberships".
2. Import Segment Memberships from CSV:
- Click on "Import from CSV" and choose the same file used earlier.
- Map the fields: import segment name to import segment name, and contact to primary email.
- Finish the import and track the progress to ensure all rows are created successfully.
Chapter 4: Creating the Segment
1. Navigate to Segments: Go to the segments section and create a new segment.
2. Set Up the Segment:
- Name the segment (e.g., "Spring 2025 Graduate Students").
- Under attributes, select "Import Segment Name" from related tables.
- Set the path to the contact and specify the import segment name used in your CSV (e.g., "Spring 2025 Graduate Students").
- Enable automatic refresh to ensure the segment updates as new rows are created.
- Save and ready the segment for use.
Chapter 5: Adding Additional Contacts
1. Follow the Same Steps: To add more contacts, ensure the import segment name matches the existing value.
2. Add Single Contacts: For individual additions, go to "Import Segment Memberships", create a new entry, and manually add the contact.
This guide provides a step-by-step process to create and manage segments based on uploaded lists, ensuring your contacts are accurately imported and segmented for targeted marketing efforts.
Chapter 6: Remove Individual Contacts
1. Navigate to Import Segment Memberships: Go to the sidebar and select "Import Segment Memberships".
2. Find the Row: There is a row on the table with both the import segment name and the contact you want to remove. You can filter by name or scroll down the list.
3. Remove the Row: Once you've found it, you can click the checkbox next to that row and the click "delete" in the menu.
Note: This deletes the row on this table, not the contact itself.
